Professor Suheil Bushrui holds the Bahà'i Chair for World Peace in the Center for International Development and Conflict Management at the University of Maryland. He is a respected Yeats scholar, the founder and Director of the Kahlil Gibran Research and Studies Project at the University of Maryland. He is an active participant in many international organisations dedicated to promoting peace and conflict resolution through inter?cultural relations and inter?faith reconciliation. He is a founding member of the International Dialogue on Transition to a Global Society and is an International Fellow of the Temenos Academy in London. In 1995, Professor Bushrui was appointed as a Creative Member of the Club of Budapest. He has taught at leading universities in Europe, Africa, and North America and has lectured widely at many institutes of higher learning in the East and the West. Between 1982 and 1988 Professor Bushrui served as senior advisor on cultural matters to the President of the Republic of Lebanon. Author, poet and critic, Professor Bushrui bas published extensively in both English and Arabic; some of his publications have been translated into several languages. His most recent book is The Wisdom of the Arabs (Oneworld, 2002).
